Those personal stories help fill out some of the sequel’s more typical comic book plotlines. Kraven doesn’t leave much of an impression as a big bad; he’s more of a catalyst that can fill the game with new bad guys to beat up than he is a memorable villain. Peter’s Symbiote corruption doesn’t break new ground either, as a sizable chunk of the game is focused on a familiar power struggle. Both stories pay off in a big way, though, once the heavily advertised Venom eventually tears into the picture. That arrival ushers in an exhilarating, high-stakes finale that pushes each hero to their limits.

This guide was specially crafted for the PS5 version of Spider-Man 2 and also applies to the 2025 PC version. On PS5 in 2023, Spider-Man 2 at least served as an impressive technical showcase for the hardware, and a blockbuster release in a relatively quiet release schedule. On PC in 2025, without those advantages and in a disappointingly shaky state, it’s much more difficult to recommend.

It’s been almost five years since the original hit the shelves, and players are desperate for any slither of information. [Spoiler warning] One particular side quest that illustrates this best is a small one. Tasked with finding a missing grandfather, players must track the man across Brooklyn at the behest of his granddaughter and caretaker. It culminates not in an action set piece, but a quiet moment where Miles sits with an elder battling dementia, ruminating in Prospect Park at the place he proposed to his late wife. Reflecting on how these memories will soon be lost to him, it’s a stark reminder to Miles (and the player) that this world is populated by real people and their experiences, and that is worth fighting for. There’s also the prerequisite stealth options which — and this cannot be stressed enough — serve zero purpose for Spider-Man.

In keeping with Insomniac’s track record, the music behind it all is stellar, with Miles’ and Peter’s respective signature tunes playing depending on who you’re controlling. A highlight, though, is the theme that follows in Kraven’s footsteps, which bears more than a passing resemblance to Howard Shore’s Uruk-hai war march from The Lord of the Rings score. It soundtracks a world that looks stunning, even when played in performance mode at a stable 60fps as I did for most of my playthrough.

Spider-Man 2 walkthrough still builds on completing story campaign missions, exploring the world, and grinding side activities at the player’s discretion. The third and fourth story missions, whether with Miles or Peter, take place without superhero costumes, often even in ordinary and everyday life. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to be released exclusively on the PlayStation 5, and won’t be available on any other platforms at launch. The game’s official website mentions that the game has been “developed for the PlayStation 5 console,” and there is currently no PS4 version listed. While Insomniac have since released a Miles Morales spin-off and announced a standalone Wolverine game, a fully-fledged sequel was only a matter of time.

I’m thinking it’s about time I refreshed my controller line-up, not only with new hardware – but new hardware in some different colors. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC is unfortunately the inferior version of what is otherwise an amazing game. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases for PC via Steam and Epic on Thursday, 30th January – and as we recently learned, it won’t require a PSN account to play after all. All of which brings us to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s PC system requirements, with Sony’s minimum specification targeting 720p at 30fps on Very Low settings.

Nixxes is a studio with a great track record for porting games such as this one, with the company ensuring that Nvidia DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3.1, along with Intel XeSS upscaling, are included from day one. This means that you should have ready access to upscaling options to get the best balance of performance and image quality for your needs, as long as your PC has the power to match the presets you use. If you own a top-spec PC, you might just be able to match the Spider-Man 2 ultimate ray tracing specs. This will give you 4K at 60fps on average, with very high graphics settings enabled, along with ray tracing settings set to ultimate. Meanwhile, the 12-core Intel Core i K or AMD Ryzen X (or better) will be sufficient for the gaming CPU, with the RAM requirement still set at 16GB.

Players can shift at any time between the two with an in-game mobile app, and often team up with AI-controlled partners. Peter is the weaker of the two and, until his symbiote powers come into play, the less interesting to play. Miles has all his electrified “venom” powers (no, not that Venom; It’s confusing) from the last game, making him the powerhouse for at least the first third of the game. Those narrative ambitions aren’t exclusive to cutscenes; Insomniac bakes them into some of its new gameplay tweaks.

The next few missions of the game are quite uneventful from a larger standpoint, as Peter Parker loses his professor job and returns to photography. These segments show off basic game mechanics like gadgets and suit customization, as the story takes a break before the excitement picks up later in the first act. By the middle of the first act, players will be reunited with Peter Parker’s best friend, Harry Osborn, the son of Norman Osborn, an iconic Spider-Man character who later becomes the Green Goblin.

It’s all part of delivering an epic Spider-Man adventure directly into your hands. According to credible rumors, Marvel’s Venom by Insomniac Games is doing well, and gamers suspect it could become a launch title for the PlayStation 6. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a singleplayer game, not featuring online play of any sort.

Traces of the symbiote remain in Peter’s psyche until Miles and Mister Negative fully purge the symbiote from Peter’s body, giving Peter Anti-Venom powers in the process. Working together, Peter, Miles, and Mary Jane destroy the symbiote nests throughout Marvel’s New York, including the meteorite that brought Venom to Earth in the first place. During his final battle with Spider-Man, Harry temporarily gains lucidity and urges his friend to destroy Venom, at the cost of his own health. Peter reluctantly complies with Harry’s wishes, destroying the symbiote, with Harry rendered comatose from the ordeal. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, created by Insomniac in collaboration with Marvel, is a technological and graphical showcase utilizing tools like ray-tracing to bring the city of Marvel’s New York to life.

Between Kraven’s wily viciousness and the sheer overwhelming might of Lizard and Venom, there’s a level of brutality and strength from Spider-Man’s nemeses that you didn’t see in the previous games. In a word, yes, but the real hero of this video game is a story that’s nothing short of amazing. Not only that, but during open-world gameplay, players will be able to freely swap between Peter Parker and Miles Morales at the touch of a button, akin to GTA 5’s character-swapping feature. While over double the size of its predecessor to start, Spider-Man 2’s size isn’t too surprising. Game files have been getting larger and larger in recent years, and the upcoming adventure already looks to be a bigger and more technically impressive experience.

Two missions later, players are treated to the most odd, but also the most heartwarming boss fight of the game, as Mary Jane becomes consumed by the Symbiote and tries to take down Peter. Peter wins the fight as MJ becomes herself again before vowing to help Peter and Miles take down Venom. The beginning of the game’s third act is arguably the most fun part of the game, as players take control of Venom/ Harry Osborn as he fights out of the Oscorp laboratory. This section leads to one of the most brutal moments of the game, as Venom kills Kraven the Hunter by eating his head. Following this encounter, Peter is tasked to find where Harry ran off before Venom takes over the city with his Symbiote. At the end of the game’s second act, Peter saves Miles from Kraven before the two Spider-Men face off, as Miles tries to get Peter to give up the Symbiote.

Of course, a hero is nothing without its villains, and Spider-Man’s rogues gallery is almost unparalleled. Outside of the likes of Venom, Kraven, and Lizard seen in the trailers, Insomniac has kept many more cards hidden up its sleeve. I won’t even hint at any of these except to say that Spider-Man 2 opens with a bang, offering up a sense of scale not previously seen in the series. It’s an adrenaline-fuelled reintroduction to the series that tests how well you remember the combat, as well as providing a few new tricks. It’s also the start of one of the new side-story villain threads that are optional, and while those don’t offer anything overly new in terms of gameplay, they do add valuable extra scraps of story. They flesh out these villains, allowing fully formed characters to emerge where once they were merely one-and-done boss battle appearances.
